ResourceSmart Schools

Announcement

Grampians Central West WRRG is sad to announce that our time as the delivery partner for ResourceSmart Schools in the Grampians region is coming to an end.

As of February 2022, Sustainability Victoria will be delivering the ResourceSmart Schools Program for the Grampians region.

Grampians Central West WRRG has been thrilled to be involved in the delivery of the program in its current state since 2014 and through previous iterations in the years before that.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful schools, teachers, and students, that we have had the privilege to work with for the last 7 years. It has been thrilling to see schools, students and communities embrace the program and watch them evolve as they embed sustainability into everything they do.

We have seen some wonderful discoveries and inspiration take off from simple ideas – from discovering the difference between peak and non-peak energy charges, through to frog bogs, nude food initiatives, and networks between Community Gardens, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program and schools becoming stronger.

We have been privileged to be a part of the sustainability story in our schools and communities.

Our social media page and Facebook group for Grampians RSS will be closing soon.

Please continue to follow our main page https://www.facebook.com/GCWWRRG for all thing sustainable and circular economy in the Grampians region, and also ensure you follow Sustainability Victoria’s Page https://www.facebook.com/SustainVic for activities across the state.

Sustainability Victoria will be in touch with all current schools to continue working on the ResourceSmart Schools program.

Thank you again for your wonderful support over the years.

ResourceSmart Schools (RSS) program is a Victorian Government initiative that helps schools benefit from embedding sustainability into everything they do. In the Grampians Central West Region (from Bacchus Marsh to the South Australian border) Grampians Central West Waste and Resource Recovery Group coordinates the program.

Schools are encouraged to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions tracking the schools progress through monitoring bills and identify savings made.

More than 1000 schools in Victoria have signed up to the ResourceSmart Schools program, since the launch of a similar program back in 2003.

The program has many benefits for your school including:

  • Support from facilitators
  • Recognition through working through modules and achieving stars
  • Savings
  • Adaptable
  • Linked to learning and curriculum
  • Being a sustainable school
  • Build connections

“Being involved in RSS helped to reinvigorate our staff and we are now sustainability leaders in our region!’

Kate, RSS Secondary Teacher of the Year 2016
